  1. Using Routines and Schedules to Support Self-Regulation

  2. The start of the year provides an opportunity for early childhood educators to develop schedules and routines that can facilitate young children’s growing ability to self-regulate. This workshop will highlight the features of routines and schedules that focus on developing self-regulation as well as other aspects of the environment that provide similar opportunities. Participants will be given time to reflect on their classroom practices and plan changes if necessary.

      As a result of attending this workshop participants will:

    • Identify characteristics of a supportive classroom schedule, routines, arrangement and transitions.
    • Identify classroom practices that are needed to make schedules and routines effective self-regulation tools.
    • Plan for changes in the classroom environment.

  3. Diverse learning in Early Childhood Classrooms

  4. This workshop will focus on supporting participants to learn about meeting the diverse learning needs of children with disabilities participating in early childhood classrooms. Through discussion and hands on activities participants will learn about supportive whole class strategies that can be put in place for all children and about strategies that can increase children with disabilities access and participation in learning experiences so that all children are included. Participants will also learn about and practice how to embed these strategies into lesson planning.

      As a result of attending this workshop participants will:

    • Define inclusion and features of early childhood inclusion.
    • Identify strategies for use in the classroom.
    • Apply the strategies to a learning experience.

  1. Get Up and Go! Learning Through Movement

  2. Providing physical fitness activities for young children is an important part of a developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum. From children’s yoga to outdoor activities, this workshop will focus on different ways to get children moving as well as how to incorporate movement activities throughout your daily schedule. Come dressed to move!

      As a result of attending this workshop participants will:

    • Understand the importance of providing movement activities in the early childhood classroom.
    • Discover new ways to incorporate movement into daily routines.
    • Understand how movement activities support learning in other domains.
    • Connect movement activities to observations with CT’s Early Learning and Development Standards and CT DOTS.

  3. Making Learning Visible: Creating Document Boards

  4. Using artifacts and samples of children’s work in progress help tell the story of learning in your classroom. Documentation boards invite families, visitors, and the children in our classroom to revisit activities and demonstrates the purpose of the action shown or described. By documenting insight into children’s development the learning becomes visible. Participants should bring photos, work samples, and any artifacts they would like to use to create documentation boards. Additional supplies to enhance boards will be provided.

      As a result of attending this workshop participants will:

    • Learn how to tell your classroom story through the creation of documentation boards.
    • Use the artifacts you collected to provide evidence of process with a purpose.
    • Document children’s growth and development.
    • Promote how your children are meeting learning standards.
    • Reflect on the effectiveness of your teaching practices.
