Autism Spectrum Disorders & Other Developmental Disabilities Program, PreK-12

The EASTCONN Autism Program (EAP), located in Columbia, provides a regionally based, integrated service program for students in PreK-grade 12 who are on the autism spectrum. The program provides intensive services to children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and other developmental disabilities, for whom learning challenges would be best addressed in a specialized program. Features include a comprehensive, integrative approach to program planning and a structured, intensive, individualized, special-education setting based on the principles of applied behavioral analysis. With a focus on best practice and comprehensive skills development, ongoing behavioral assessment is used, emphasizing systematic teaching to promote learning and generalization. Our multi-disciplinary team includes a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, occupational therapist, physical therapist, speech-language pathologist and assistive technology specialist. A strong emphasis is placed on the family as an integral part of the team. EASTCONN autism services provide individual student evaluations for initial diagnosis, and consultative services with in-district support and staff training. Such services include staff/team consultation and training, functional behavioral assessment and individual student program development. Autism Program consultants are also available to meet with districts to assess system-wide programming needs, with the goal of building district capacity to meet students' needs in their home schools.

Benefits: EASTCONN Autism Program students are supported by a multi-disciplinary team and specialized professional services. Extended-year services are also available. Parent/guardian involvement is a key component. Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) are available for embedded consulting and assistance with transition, as well as for building districts' capacity to program for students in their home schools. The EASTCONN Autism Program is conveniently located in Columbia.
