Early Head Start

EASTCONN’s Early Head Start is a federally funded program that provides support and resources to income-eligible pregnant women, children ages birth to three and their families.  EASTCONN offers home-based and center-based programs in Windham county.  Windham Public Schools administers center-based and home-based programs for the greater Windham area and Stafford Public Schools administers a home-based program in Stafford and surrounding towns in Tolland county.  Benefits of Early Head Start include strong family involvement and support with child development, education, health, nutrition, mental health, and safety.

At our centers, children receive:

  • Full day, full-year care, with a child-centered approach to learning
  • Daily nutritious meals
  • Coordinated services to provide tools and resources addressing the child’s health and educational needs

In our home-based program, home visitors come to participants’ homes for weekly 90-minute education sessions, for families who are pregnant or parenting a child under 3. Families gather twice a month for play and socialization, and are linked with a variety of resources and services according to their needs.

The EASTCONN programs are committed to high quality early childhood programming, including highly qualified teachers and home visitors, ongoing professional development, small class size, a low child-to-staff ratio, a broad socioeconomic mix of children, and parent engagement in their children’s learning.

Head Start

EASTCONN’s Head Start is a federally funded program for income-eligible children, ages three to five.  Head Start programs promote school readiness by collaboratively enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social, and other services to enrolled children and their families.  Benefits of Early Head Start include strong family involvement and support with child development, education, health, nutrition, mental health, and safety.

EASTCONN offers a variety of Head Start programs.  Options include center-based programming in Killingly, Putnam, and Plainfield and a home-based program serving Tolland county.  Windham Public Schools administers a center-based program in the greater Windham area.  Our programs use a developmentally appropriate school readiness curriculum collectively with the Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards to ensure we align with the public schools that will be receiving these children.  Teacher observations of your child’s learning experiences are documented daily to complete assessments that are used to support classroom learning experiences and differentiate planning.

The EASTCONN programs are committed to high quality early childhood programming, including highly qualified teachers and home visitors, ongoing professional development, small class size, a low child-to-staff ratio, a broad socioeconomic mix of children, and parent engagement in their children’s learning.
