Hampton, CT - In collaboration with EASTCONN, Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) will offer a new, one-year, Hampton-based Master’s in Teacher Leadership program for northeastern Connecticut’s early-career educators, starting May 28, 2019.
An information session is planned for Tues., March 19, 2019, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at EASTCONN’s Conference Center, 376 Hartford Turnpike, Hampton.
The new master’s classes will meet throughout the year at EASTCONN’s Conference Center, and online. Meeting times will be announced at a later date. The application deadline for the new master’s program is April 15, 2019.
“This CCSU master’s program will focus on leadership topics that are of specific interest to educators in northeastern Connecticut’s small districts, allowing them to focus on regionally relevant topics such as restorative practices, trauma-informed education, and social-emotional learning, in addition to other considerations, like our growing English-learner population,” said CCSU Professor Dr. Kurt Love, who teaches in the program.
According to Dr. Olusegun Sogunro, CCSU’s MS Program Coordinator, “In small Connecticut districts, early-career teachers are very often called upon to assume leadership roles. This master’s program will prepare them for the unique challenges they may meet, ultimately benefitting their schools, their students and their communities.”
CCSU’s new, one-year Master’s in Teacher Leadership program at EASTCONN meets the Connecticut State Department of Education requirements for early-career educators, who must be enrolled in and complete a planned master’s program in order to advance toward their provisional educator certificate.
“The partnership between EASTCONN and CCSU brings CCSU’s highly regarded master’s program into the Quiet Corner’s back yard, creating easier access for teachers who want to advance their learning and their careers,” said Dr. Sheldon Watson, Chair-Elect of CCSU’s Department of Educational Leadership, Policy and Instructional Technology.
