The public is invited to attend 2 By Albee: The Sandbox x 2 & Seascape, performed by students at EASTCONN’s Arts at the Capitol Theater (ACT) magnet high school. Performances are scheduled on Thurs., Fri. and Sat., May 2, 3, and 4, 2019, at 7 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sat., May 4, at the Capitol Theater, 896 Main St., Willimantic.
2 By Albee: The Sandbox x 2 & Seascape is a collaboration among students and faculty from ACT’s Theater, Audio/Visual, Lighting Design, Set Construction and Costume departments.
Each daily performance will feature two plays by Edward Albee with three different student casts. The Sandbox will be performed twice - once prior to Seascape with one cast - and again, immediately following Seascape, with a different student cast.
By choosing this unique “sandwich” approach, director Sandra Evans-Abbott is able to utilize more of the students’ talents and reinforce the importance and overall concept of these plays’ two messages, which are intertwined.
The Sandbox is a 15-minute, one-act play by Edward Albee that premiered in 1960.
Seascape won the 1975 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and was nominated for a 1975 Tony Award for Best Play and the 1975 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding New Play (American).
