EASTCONN Where Learning Comes to Life

About Us

The EASTCONN Mobile STEM Lab offers students and teachers a unique setting in which to discover – or rediscover – the exciting worlds of science, technology, engineering and math. Our staff have designed and vetted curricular modules that make experiments from our laboratory appropriate for the pre-K – 12 classroom. Our modules allow students to use the latest technology to tackle some of today’s most challenging questions. They also emphasize problem-solving and require students of all ages to analyze data and form and test hypotheses. In 2013, a federal, $12-million Magnet School Assistance Program (MSAP) grant made it possible for seven eastern Connecticut schools, including EASTCONN’s magnet high school, Quinebaug Middle College (QMC), to envision and build a mobile STEM Laboratory. The QMC Mobile STEM Lab serves the learning needs of QMC students in grades 9-12, acting as a tool for improving student access to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) learning. But the Lab is also capable of visiting small pre-K-12 schools that have limited resources, sharing the lab’s sophisticated, state-of-the-art equipment for conducting experiments both in schools’ back yards, and/or on field trips to sites like vernal pools and forests.

Created in 1980 under Connecticut General Statute 10-66a, EASTCONN is a public, non-profit, Regional Educational Service Center. EASTCONN exists to provide high-quality, competitively priced educational and related services to 36 member Boards of Education and the 33 communities they serve in northeastern Connecticut. We are governed by a Board of Directors, who are members of locally elected Boards of Education. Our funding comes from the fees we charge for our services, supplemented by competitively awarded grants and contracts.

EASTCONN’s mission is to initiate, support and facilitate partnerships, collaborations and regional solutions that are responsive to the needs of all learners through exemplary programs, products and services.
