Spend the day with Gravity Goldberg as she shows us how to get the most out of reader's notebooks, shifting their role from teacher-assigned compliance task to student-owned thinking tool that fuels conferring and small-group work. Gravity will spend the morning on fiction and the afternoon on nonfiction, drawing upon tips and tools from her books co-written with Renee Hauser, What Do I Teach Readers Tomorrow for both fiction and nonfiction.
Session participants will leave with:
- Strategies for lifting the level of student thinking through writing about reading.
- Student-centered practices for using reader's notebooks to promote student ownership and engagement.
- Tips and tools for quick assessment to determine next steps for readers in fiction and nonfiction texts.
