Why do Connecticut farmers and fishermen grow and harvest the products they do? Second- and 3rd-graders from participating schools learn how to answer that question as they explore the intriguing facts surrounding state agriculture and aquaculture in this Interdistrict Grant program. Students in 2nd grade focus on foods that come from the land, with activities that allow them to explore the life cycles of plants, as well as balanced nutrition. Third graders focus on adaptations that allow certain plants and animals to thrive in local aquatic environments. This interdisciplinary, yearlong program focuses on improving academic outcomes and students’ understanding and appreciation of diversity.
