This Interdistrict Grant program encourages 6th-graders from participating schools to explore healthy choices in all aspects of their lives. Students maintain journals and introduce their families to facts about exercise and nutritious eating, try to attain the 10,000 steps daily that are recommended for maintaining a healthy weight and journal their results. They also participate in a Health Symposium that is led by a panel of health professionals who discuss their occupations with students. Students have an opportunity to work in interdistrict groups while using a heart monitor and exercise stations.
Benefits: Students participate in a yearlong series of health related activities, allowing them to explore and implement healthy choices in all aspects of their lives. They also participate in a Health Symposium, led by a panel of professionals who discuss their occupations, exposing them to various careers in the health field.
