This project provides five hours of instruction per week to prepare students to successfully complete the GED exam and/or improve their English reading, writing and speaking skills. Instruction is provided for non-traditional students at easily accessible locations in their communities, such as housing developments, transition houses and social service agencies. Program partners provide participants with support services, including counseling and transportation.

Benefits: United Services clients who lack a high school credential are given the opportunity to study and prepare to take the GED exam. EASTCONN Adult Services provides on-site instruction at United Services in Putnam. Windham Heights residents who need to increase their English language reading, writing, and speaking skills in order to find and maintain employment have the opportunity to take conveniently located ESL classes at the Learning Center. All classes incorporate the use of technology in order to strengthen workplace digital literacy.
