Students from participating schools in grades 5-8 meet throughout the year to examine human rights, civil rights and diversity in this Interdistrict Grant program. Participants read literature related to their own rights, contribute a piece of writing to a program anthology, attend speeches given by advocates of civil rights and civil liberties organizations, take part in numerous EASTCONN Adventure activities to enhance team-building skills and visit a local history museum. The overall focus is acquiring a better understanding of human rights and the importance of diversity.

Benefits: Students gain insight into humanity's ongoing struggle for social justice in this interdisciplinary program, aimed at increasing students' awareness and appreciation of diversity. Students use literature to explore complex social concepts. Academic achievement is an integral component of this program. Students work in teams and make friends with peers from different school districts and backgrounds.
