EASTCONN offers three different options for adults, 17 years and older, who are seeking a high school credential: the GED diploma; the Adult High School Credit Diploma program; and the National External Diploma Program. The new 2014 GED diploma test, offered online in both English and Spanish, consists of a timed, four-part test on science, social studies, mathematics and language arts. The Adult High School Credit Diploma option allows students to combine previously earned high school credits with adult education courses, independent study and projects, and documented employment and community service, in order to fulfill state requirements for an EASTCONN adult high school diploma. The National External Diploma Program allows students to earn their diploma by demonstrating mastery of life skills electronically through completion of weekly tasks, development of a portfolio and documentation of work-related skills. Every two years, EASTCONN collaborates with area school districts to respond to Connecticut State Department of Education-funded Interdistrict Grant opportunities, which are designed to boost students' academic skills and increase their understanding and experience of diversity. The Cool Directions program is our year-round, in-school, youth initiative for students, ages 14-21 (grades 9-12). Students participate in team-building, portfolio development and employment activities. The program not only provides paid summer jobs, it gives students an opportunity to understand the link between work and school. During the school year, students continue to enhance and expand the skills they acquired during the summer. Youths need to meet Department of Labor Guidelines to participate.

This collaborative program between EASTCONN and Woodstock Academy provides services for high-school age students with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities on the campus of Woodstock Academy. Students are supported by a team of educators in the development of social skills, independence, academic skills and employability skills in the context of an authentic high school experience, regardless of the student’s disability. Individual service plans are developed through the Planning and Placement Team process with the Local Education Agency (LEA).

EASTCONN provides transportation services for public schools, including PK-12 regular and special education students. In addition we provide transportation services to human services agencies in our region. We operate a fleet of 100-plus transportation vehicles of various types and seating capacities; we also manage the maintenance, routing, dispatching, vendors, insurance and provision of drivers. The fleet includes wheelchair-accessible vehicles for riders who require this equipment. All vehicles are equipped with cellular phones and GPS devices. Routes and schedules are flexible in order to meet your specific needs. Weekend, field trip, holiday, summer and other special transportation is available. EASTCONN uses professionally licensed drivers who undergo state and federal criminal checks and continual, random drug testing. Drivers are trained in carrying medically fragile riders and in dealing with difficult populations. Drivers can escort clients to and from appointments, as needed. Bilingual staff is available. Connecticut law requires local school systems to have all new employees, including substitute teachers, fingerprinted for state and national criminal history checks. EASTCONN will fingerprint new employees and maintain their information in our registry. We will also send their information to the schools of their choice. EASTCONN manages the administrator testing program for the Connecticut State Department of Education. Individuals applying for their Connecticut Administration Certification must take and pass the Connecticut Administrator Test (CAT), which is administered at convenient sites around the state at different times during the year. The CAT consists of four modules. Created in 2004, and located in the Capitol Theater in busy downtown Willimantic, ACT (Arts at the Capitol Theater) is a full-day, comprehensive, arts magnet high school, serving grades 9-12. ACT's official partners are Eastford, Killingly, Norwich, Plainfield, Putnam, Stafford, Windham and Woodstock; however, students also attend from additional Connecticut towns. ACT utilizes an integrated approach to instruction, using the arts as motivation for students as they study standards-based core academic subjects. Differentiated instruction in the classroom addresses individual student learning needs. Students study with certified academic teachers and professional artists in this small, arts-focused learning community. Each grade is limited to approximately 35 students, making this an intimate, focused, artistic learning environment. Students attend classes from 8:45 a.m. to 4:25 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with classes ending at 1:07 p.m. on Friday. The Capitol Theater, which houses ACT, boasts three theaters, a set design and construction shop, audio/video editing suites, classrooms, dance studios, a costume shop, and a creative writing computer lab. There are a variety of classroom programs to choose from, including a Full Program that offers 30 hours of classroom instruction and 8 hours of behind-the-wheel practice; and an 8-hour Safe Driving Practice program, required by the State of Connecticut for teens and adults. The EASTCONN Autism Program, located in Columbia, provides a regionally based, integrated service program for students in preK-grade 12 who are on the autism spectrum. The program provides intensive services to children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and other developmental disabilities, for whom learning challenges would be best addressed in a specialized program. Features include a comprehensive, integrative approach to program planning and a structured, intensive, individualized, special-education setting based on the principles of applied behavioral analysis. With a focus on best practice and comprehensive skills development, ongoing behavioral assessment is used, emphasizing systematic teaching to promote learning and generalization. Our multidisciplinary team includes a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, occupational therapist, physical therapist, speech-language pathologist and assistive technology specialist. A strong emphasis is placed on the family as an integral part of the team. EASTCONN autism services provide individual student evaluations for initial diagnosis, and consultative services with in-district support and staff training. Such services include staff/team consultation and training, functional behavioral assessment and individual student program development. Students in 2nd grade focus on foods that come from the land, with activities that allow them to explore the life cycles of plants, as well as balanced nutrition, while 3rd-graders focus on adaptations that allow certain plants and animals to thrive in local aquatic environments. They also participate in a Health Symposium that is led by a panel of health professionals who discuss their occupations with students. Together, about 300 high school students from different school districts explore not only the science of crime scene forensics, but also the many other areas of study that comprise forensic science. Students from participating districts work together to explore a wide variety of careers that use forensic thinking to solve real-life problems.

Health Profession Opportunity Grants (HPOG) provide opportunities for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) recipients and other low-income individuals to enter and advance along four health care career pathways (patient care and nursing, emergency medicine, community health and patient navigation, and health information management) through:

The EASTCONN Mobile STEM Lab is EASTCONN's newest STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) learning resource for teachers and students in Pre-K through grade 12. The Mobile STEM Lab travels to schools and recreational areas throughout Connecticut. On the Mobile STEM Lab, students enjoy access to sophisticated, state-of-the-art STEM equipment and engage in learning experiences that address Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) topics, such as watersheds, biodiversity, climate change, feeding the hungry, water waste treatment and robotics. System-wide services are delivered through a consultative framework driven by a comprehensive needs appraisal. Psychological and Behavioral Consultation Services(PBCS) offers comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations to identify a child's cognitive strengths and weaknesses, determine how a child learns best and outline appropriate and beneficial intervention strategies. Assessments are selected to address specific referral questions and could evaluate attention, memory, language, problem solving, visual skills, executive functioning and other cognitive functions. Results and recommendations are shared with the child's family and with the school team. Consultation services are also available to facilitate the implementation of recommendations and to consider how to proceed when a comprehensive evaluation may not be warranted.
