INACTIVE Summer Musical Theater Program: Capitol Theater Arts Academy (CTAA)

Students entering grades 4-12 explore musical theater in small groups through daily classes in acting, movement, music, technical theater and costuming. They also participate in creative learning extensions with our Connecticut-certified English teacher. Students participate in the fully staged production of a Broadway-style musical experience, which culminates in a performance for friends, family and patrons of the arts. Students can participate in community performances and attend a local production. The program includes opportunities for participation in local community events, providing outreach and program awareness to the public. Children make new friends and explore a variety of theatrical skills, while they learn to sing, dance, sew, build a set, act and much more.

Benefits: Students make new friends as they learn what it takes to prepare for a fully staged, Broadway-style musical in the Capitol Theater, a state-of-the-art production facility in bustling downtown Willimantic. Every participant plays a key role, whether onstage or behind the scenes, in making the culminating theatrical production a success. This experience allows students to meet new, like-minded arts and technical theater friends from across the region. Plus, students learn from some of the region's finest, working-theater-arts professionals. Students also participate in creative learning extensions taught by a Connecticut-certified English teacher.
