High School Completion Options

High School Completion – 3 Options:

1. NEDP

The National External Diploma Program (NEDP) provides a unique way for adults to earn a high school diploma. NEDP is not a traditional instructional program. The program allows adults to demonstrate their high school level skills by applying their life experiences in real-life situations. Participants meet with an NEDP staff member weekly and complete assigned work between meetings, developing a portfolio to demonstrate obtainment of high school skills.

Once the NEDP participant has satisfied all requirements, the EASTCONN High School diploma is awarded.

Currently, the National External Diploma Program is moving from paper/pencil to a computerized program. This process is expected to be completed by July 2013.

NEDP is offered at:

  • Northeast Learning Center (NELC), Danielson
  • Community LearningCenter (CLC), Willimantic
  • Stafford (Site TBD) by appointment only

Classes vary each trimester.  Students must meet with the counselor to set up a class schedule.

2. GED (General Educational Development)

Adults who have not completed high school must demonstrate, through the official GED exam, the attainment of academic skills and concepts normally acquired through completion of a high school program. The GED includes 5 subtests: Language Arts (including a writing section), Mathematics, Language Arts/Reading, Science, and Social Studies. Applicants for this examination must be at least 17 years of age and officially withdrawn from school for at least six months. The official GED test is administered monthly in various approved locations in CT, one of which is EASTCONN at its central office in Hampton, CT. Individuals who pass the GED Test are awarded a Connecticut State High School Diploma. Students are strongly encouraged to prepare for the exam before taking it. EASTCONN offers GED preparation classes at various locations and times.

Previous credits earned through accredited programs are transferred and the remaining credits are earned through EASTCONN. In addition to traditional classes, other options include online classes and independent studies.
