Freshman Leader in the Making
Sierra Cunningham, an Acting major who is rounding near the close of her freshman year has been an exemplary member of the TOP program, actively and enthusiastically participating in every activity and discussion. She volunteered to be a part of this group at the beginning of the school year.
Nina Shea, Social Worker at ACT states, “Sierra is positive, self-motivated, enthusiastic and a natural leader in the program. She is also frequently seen encouraging students to participate or comforting them when they are struggling.”
Sierra organized and facilitated the WAIM coat drive by making phone calls, determining the need and figuring out the drop off time. She also participated in the food-packaging event and was one of three students to participate in a community garden event. One Saturday, Sierra helped plant and move mulch. She learned which plants were in season as well. Sierra is always looking for the next opportunity to do more for the school community.
Nina also expresses, “We have seen tremendous growth in Sierra since the beginning of the year and look forward to seeing her grow over the next three years at ACT.”
This spring, Sierra participated as one of the crewmembers for the performance, Getting Out. She helped build the set and hand off props. Sierra devoted a lot of her after school hours preparing and assisting the crew and performers. Most recently, Sierra was a tour guide for the Natchaug Elementary students who visited our school for some activities and performances last week.
