Tolland, CT – In a region where families with low income struggle to find high-quality preschool options for their children, EASTCONN has some good news. One of EASTCONN’s Head Start programs now has new openings for 16 preschool children in Tolland County.
EASTCONN’s home-based Head Start program brings an early childhood specialist into the homes of participants each week for 1.5 hours. This program serves children, ages 3-5, and their families.
While visiting each home, EASTCONN’s highly trained staff model proactive parenting skills, share information about child development, nutrition, family and child-friendly play activities, and help parents set family and educational goals.
EASTCONN home visitors can also help connect families with the stabilizing resources they need. EASTCONN staff can make referrals to school districts and other local agencies, ensuring that youngsters have a dental home, and that their families are connected to other services like those for mental health, OT, PT or speech-language, as well as housing, energy and food assistance, adult education programming, and more.
EASTCONN is a public, non-profit Regional Educational Service Center that has been serving the education needs of northeastern Connecticut schools and communities since 1980. Learn more at www.eastconn.org.
