EASTCONN Adult Education Expands to Plainfield with New Wauregan Location

Partnership with United Services brings high school completion and English language classes to 303 Putnam Road

PLAINFIELD — EASTCONN Adult Education continues its regional expansion with the opening of a new location in Wauregan, providing greater access to free educational services for residents throughout the Plainfield area.

The new site, located at 303 Putnam Road in Wauregan, operates through a partnership with United Services and offers morning classes in high school completion and English Language Learning (ELL) to accommodate working adults and parents. Free childcare is available during classes to support parents pursuing their educational goals.

“We're excited to expand our services to the Plainfield area through this wonderful partnership with United Services,” said Kristin Hempel, Director of EASTCONN Adult and Community Programs. “This new location allows us to better serve learners throughout the region and removes transportation barriers that might otherwise prevent adults from pursuing their educational goals."

Diane Manning, CEO of United Services, welcomed the partnership, saying, "United Services is proud to host EASTCONN's adult education programs at our Wauregan facility. This partnership aligns perfectly with our mission of supporting community members in achieving greater independence and success. We're excited to see how these educational opportunities will benefit local families."

The Wauregan location currently focuses on morning class sessions for high school completion and English Language Learning programs. These in-person offerings complement EASTCONN's existing virtual classes conducted via Zoom and programs at other regional locations including the recently opened downtown Putnam site.

Adult education plays a crucial role in strengthening communities and families. Completing a high school equivalency credential significantly increases job opportunities and earning potential for graduates, with studies showing that GED recipients typically earn thousands more annually than those without a high school credential. When adults improve their educational attainment, the benefits extend beyond individual success to create stronger, more prosperous families and communities.

EASTCONN also offers industry certification training in customer service, healthcare, childcare, food service, and construction. These free training programs are available to qualified participants at locations throughout the region. The organization is excited to announce plans for an evening Construction certification course through NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) in Plainfield in the upcoming months.
