EASTCONN Names New Interim Principal of QMC (Spanish)

Estimados/as padres/madres, encargados/as y estudiantes,

¡Buenas noticias!

Sinceramente,

Diane Dugas

Directora de Liderazgo y Aprendizaje de EASTCONN

EASTCONN Names New Interim Principal of QMC

Note: The following letter was sent to parents July 27, 2020.

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,

Good news! I am pleased to announce that we have chosen a wonderful interim principal to take up the leadership reins at QMC. Effective immediately, David C. Howes will become QMC’s interim principal. As a result, our students and staff will start the school year with a seasoned administrator, who can lead them through the challenges ahead, and provide the immediate continuity and consistency that our school needs. As you know, former QMC Principal Mary Kay Tshonas resigned in July to accept another position. We wish her all the best.

David joined the EASTCONN family last summer as principal of EASTCONN’s LEAP School, an alternative high school in Willimantic. His work with our LEAP students and staff has been exemplary. And, because he has worked with staff from all of the EASTCONN schools, including QMC, David will be able to seamlessly transition from his exclusive role at LEAP, which he will continue to oversee, to his new role at QMC.

David was previously principal and executive director (2014-2019) at New London’s Interdistrict School of Arts and Communication (ISAAC), where he taught between 1998 and 2011. He served as ISAAC’s executive director for many years. He was an education consultant for Hartford and New Haven, and served as assistant principal in Hartford. He earned his B.A. and master’s from Connecticut College and a Sixth Year in Educational Leadership at UConn, where he also completed UConn’s Executive Leadership Program. David also holds both Superintendent (093) and School Administrator (092) certificates.

Happily, David is already familiar with EASTCONN’s student-centered approach to learning, and our culture and classroom practices. His focus is, and will continue to be, on providing the vigorous, joyful and meaningful learning environments that our students and staff have come to know.

Please join us for a Zoom meeting on Wednesday, July 29, at 6 p.m., when you can meet and chat with David, and we can discuss QMC’s reopening plans for the coming school year.

For the Zoom meeting link, please refer to this letter sent to your Inbox.

Looking forward to seeing you on this Wednesday, July 29th at 6 p.m.!

Sincerely,

Diane Dugas
Director of EASTCONN Leading & Learning
