Head Start
Programs

Head Start is a federally-funded program for eligible children, ages
birth to five, and their families. Head Start programs combine school
readiness curricula with medical, dental and social service supports for
income-eligible children and their families. EASTCONN programs use
developmentally appropriate school readiness curriculum based on the
Connecticut Preschool Curriculum Frameworks. Children are assessed using
both federal Head Start outcomes as well as the Connecticut Preschool
Benchmarks to ensure that there is good curricular alignment with the
public schools that will be receiving these children.
EASTCONN is the administrative agent for Windham and Tolland counties
in Connecticut. EASTCONN and its delegate agencies, Windham Public Schools
and Stafford Public Schools, operate a total of 10 local centers [Killingly/Brooklyn, Plainfield Moosup
Garden, Plainfield Moosup Elementary,
Putnam, Vernon,
Vernon Skinner Rd., Stafford
Public Schools, Windham Public Schools and
Windham Early Childhood Center] serving 448 children
and their families. A variety of program options are available, including
center-based or home-based
programming, Early Head Start for infants and toddlers, full or part-day
schedules, as well as extended day options.
The EASTCONN programs are committed to high-quality early childhood
programming, including teacher quality, ongoing professional development,
small class size, a low children-to-staff ratio, a broad socioeconomic
mix of children, and parent engagement in their children’s learning.
Benefits:
• Highly qualified staff provide a safe and developmentally sound learning
environment
• A variety of scheduling options allow families to find the best fit
• Head Start children enter school ready to succeed
• Centers are strategically located to best serve the children and
families most in need of Head Start support For any
