The Art of Stonework
Stonework is all around us in northeast Connecticut. From the tumbled down
stonewalls in our forests to the elegant and massive retaining walls in our town
centers, the common thread that binds these creations is the simple beauty of
stone put in place by human hand and thoughtful mind. The gray, weathered face
of stone invites contemplation and relaxation. It is soothing to look upon, but
it can be just as soothing and rewarding to work with, even for the beginner.
Explore the art of working with stone in this hands-on course. Learn how to
build and repair stonewalls, arrange and construct a stepping stone path or
landing, and to arrange stone as a sculptural element in your garden or yard.
Techniques on how to break, cut, and drill stone will be addressed, as well as
how to properly use the tools of the trade. This five-week course includes one
Wednesday evening and four Saturday field trips. Field trip dates and times will
be determined on the first night of class according to student preferences.

a Connecticut High School Diploma from the State Department of Education.
Accommodations for the GED test are available for qualified individuals with a
disability.
Adult High School Credit Diploma (AHSCDP): An EASTCONN high school
diploma may be earned by adults who fulfill state requirements through a

evening classes, documented work experience, and community service.
The External Diploma Program (EDP): This nationally-directed diploma
program, administered by EASTCONN, is based on 65 competencies demonstrated
through life and work experience. Completion time for this program is based on
the individual's pace and schedule.
OPTIONS (Out-of-School Youth): This high school completion/employment
program for eligible out of school youth between the ages of 16 and 21 is funded
by the Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board. It is designed to assist
eligible out-of-school youth to move from a high school drop out to a high

postsecondary programs. This program includes a case manager who works with
participants to overcome barriers that prevent them from being successful in
school and the workplace.
